Oyen United Church
Oyen United Church is located at 206 1st Ave E in Oyen Alberta. Each week after worship we gather for light pot luck lunch. A time to catch up on news of the week. We serve our community:
*by offering hospitality, marriages & funerals
*by renting out our building for groups to use
*by visiting weekly with folk in the Oyen Lodge, Hospital and Extended Care
*by supporting the local food bank
*by supporting the provision of worship in the Oyen Lodge
*by offering The Gallery, a revolving display of art and topics that speaks of our fath and our community values.
*by offering a space to come and just "be" in the busy-ness of Life.
Alsask United Church
Alsask United Church is located at 518 2nd Ave N in Alsask SK. What our church lacks in population we make up for with Character. Our congregations gathers for church at this address 6-8 times/year depending on the schedule of the minister and of course the weather and harvest. Our church and community sponsors a Foster child.
Cereal United Church
Cereal United Church is located at 152 2nd Ave E in Cereal AB. Once a month our churchs celebrates the children in our community by having a service totally focused on children. We serve our community:
*with the prepration of an annual Community Calendar with lists the birthdays, weddings, anniversaries and deaths of the people of the community
*by providing hospitality for weddings and funerals in our community.
In our Community
Oyen United Church delivered Meals on Wheels for the month of July. Thank you to the volunteers who made this possible.
Oyen United Church was pleased to present Oyen Family Support Service with a donation of $5,000 to help sustain the operation of the Transportation Program. This donation was made possible through a Mission and Service Grant from Chinook Winds Region of the United Church of Canada.
Back Ground on the FCSS Transportation Program: The office of Oyen FCSS recognized the lack of transportation for seniors to medical appoints and other needed services was a barrier to their ability to age in place. A partnership of Communities in Action, Oyen Family Community Support Services and the Handi-Bus Association received a grant from Healthy Aging Alberta in 2023 to purchase a van and provide a much-needed service for seniors. The purchase of the van was to provide a much more economical means of transportation than using the Handi-bus and also easier recruitment of drivers. The service encompasses 6000 square Kilometers of rural and remote communities such as Oyen, Empress, Cereal, and Acadia Valley Big Stone, Youngstown, Chinook, Sedalia, New Brigden, Esther, Sedalia and Sibbald. These small hamlets do not have grocery stores and have need of transportation to get to doctors, food bank, banks, lawyers, senior supports, church and social outings. The service is offered on a sliding scale according to the income of the senior needing the service. Since receiving the grant in November 2023 the service has provided 753 rides to medical appointments both distant and local and 1,120 locally for basic needs and social outing. The numbers reflect the need in the community for such a service. In order to sustain the program, the need for financial support is needed. Advertising on the van in recognition of business, organization or private donors is vibrantly displayed it.
